Job Description



Macquarie Group (Macquarie) is a global provider of banking, financial, advisory, investment and funds management services operating in 27 countries.  Macquarie is seeking a tax intern for 20 hours per week when school is in session and up to 40 hours per week during non-school periods in order to support its businesses in the Americas.  The primary focus would be on supporting the Tax Reporting Department in preparing analytical data in relation to 41 States in which Macquarie has a presence as well as for Federal Tax and Management purposes. The role will focus on analyzing data for federal and state tax purposes, responding to Tax Authorities’ requests and assisting with audit compliance in areas with growing risk and focus as the US has seen considerable operational growth over the last few years, in what is a demanding regulatory and compliance environment.






  • Preparation of supporting work papers to substantiate amending prospective tax reporting in various jurisdictions.
  • Assisting information reporting team to prepare foreign tax forms.
  • Developing best practices to track tax filing obligations.
  • Supporting Head of Tax and State Tax counsel in both verbal and oral communications with State and Federal authorities tax positions taken.
  • Calculation and collation of data in response to audit and information requests for tax authorities.
  • Support the Tax Reporting function by collating data for prospective analysis.
  • Establish strong relationships with our legal entity controllers and entity management teams and other Tax Reporting staff in order to understand the mechanics of the general ledger, sub-systems, tax software, and legal entity structure.





  • Studying towards Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and/or Master’s degree in Tax or Accounting.
  • Strong analytical ability, organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Desire to learn tax rules and apply them in practice.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. Good interpersonal skills.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills are essential.
  • Must be able to work 20 hours per week when in school (ideally blocks of 4 hours or more at a time) and 40 hours a week when school is not in session.
