JOB DESCRIPTION:  

Organize and manage the routine work activities of the public information office.  Assist with             preparation of written materials of district publications.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:  

Education/Certification:
Associate’s degree
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Demonstrated skills in writing, proofreading, and editing
Proficient skills in desktop publishing, word processing, and file maintenance
Effective organizational communication, and interpersonal skills
Ability to use personal computer and software to develop databases, do word processing and desktop publishing
Ability to meet established deadlines

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

Publications and Information Services
1. Assist with writing copy for all brochures and publications produced by public information office.
2. Read copy to detect errors in spelling, punctuation, and syntax.
3. Assist with production, publication, and distribution of district publications and news releases.
4. Transcribe interview tapes and notes.
5. Take photographs for district publications, presentations, and displays.
6. Videotape meetings or programs throughout the district.
Records, Reports, and Correspondence
7. Maintain a log of media calls and information requests.
8. Maintain physical and computerized department files, including publication mailing lists.
9. Type all correspondence, memoranda, and reports for public information officer using personal computer.
10. Compile information and prepare reports as needed.
Other
11. Schedule appointments and interviews for public information officer.
12. Respond to routine inquiries; refer appropriate inquiries to public information officer.
13. Answer incoming calls and handle questions from public, media, board of trustees, and staff.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
None.

Copier, computer, printer, camera(s), video camera.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Maintain emotional control under stress; work with frequent interruptions. Repetitive hand motions; prolonged use of computer. Occasional prolonged and irregular hours.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:  

Editorial or desktop publishing experience preferred
