NYC Health + Hospitals Harlem  Center has been a bedrock of the Harlem community since 1887. The hospital provides a wide range of medical, surgical, diagnostic, therapeutic and family support services to the residents of Central Harlem, West Harlem, Washington Heights and Inwood. Harlem is the largest hospital in the area, capable of treating the most seriously ill. Harlem provides over 90 specialized ambulatory care services, dentistry and oral surgery, behavioral health services, and community substance abuse treatment.

Job Description

Provide group therapy on our inpatient unit and work as a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team to develop admission assessments, treatment plans, and clinical progress note documentation. Develop/implement daily therapy group programming for our inpatient unit that includes weekend coverage. Engage with patients to provide treatment & positive hospital experience.

Duties & Responsiblities:


1.Completes Assessments for patients admitted to the inpatient service.
2.Participates and completes initial and comprehensive treatment plans focusing on need/ assigned by Attending Physician.
3.Utilize assessments and comprehensive treatment plan to develop short and long term goals which includes a plan to help patient achieve the goals
4.Develops treatment goals and objectives based on initial and ongoing assessments designed to improve functioning through the creative utilization of the techniques unique to the creative arts therapy discipline.
5.Plan individualized schedules including activities of daily living, arts and therapy, and socialization to meet specific needs of patients.
6.Implements therapeutic interventions utilizing art, music, drama, dance or poetry as a modality to facilitate the patient's attainment of goals articulated in the patient treatment plan.
7.Work rotating weekends, and holidays as needed.
8.Lead and/or co-lead small discussion groups.
9.Lead and/or co-lead weekly community meeting with other members of various disciplines.
10.Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

1. A valid License issued by the New York State Education Department to practice as a Creative Arts Therapist; and
2. Two years of full-time, paid, professional experience in creative arts therapy..
