ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
  • This position is funded through Title 1 funds and continued employment is dependent on the continuation of these funds.
 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
 
This position requires a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university and a minimum of one (1) year of related experience working with young people.  Experience should involve counseling/advising students on personal and/or academic activities.
 
SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
 
This position requires the ability to work with children of all ages, as well as school staff.  Incumbent must have excellent written and oral communication skills in order to communicate with administrators, teachers, students and parents.  Incumbent must be able to use a computer and software, which may include MS Word and MS Excel.      
   
JOB PURPOSE AND RESPONSIBILITY:
 
Under the supervision of the campus principal, this position’s main function is to work with at-risk students to remain in school through graduation.   
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Contact retained students to begin identifying obstacles to success. 
  • Monitor absences, grades and behavior of identified at-risk students. 
  • Visit student’s homes to discuss progress. 
  • Contact students/parents on the no-show list to encourage enrollment in school or in an alternative program. 
  • Work with parents to improve student’s attendance, behavior and grades. 
  • Work with administrators/teachers/counselors to provide individual or group activities on achievement, attendance, self-concept development and behavior improvement. 
  • Conduct exit conference with students planning to withdraw from school. 
  • Maintain records of all student/parent/teacher contacts. 
  • Participate in staff development. 
OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED:
 
Perform other related duties as assigned; however, all employees are expected to comply with lawful directives in rare situations driven by need where a team effort is required.
 
PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
 
Work is performed in a standard office or school setting.  This position may involve rare exposure to blood or body fluids.  Regular attendance is required for this position.   
 
PERSONAL WORK RELATIONSHIPS:
 
This position reports directly to the Principal and works cooperatively with the Dropout Coordinator.  Incumbent works directly with identified at-risk students and their parents to improve attendance, achievement and behavior.  Incumbent cooperates with campus counselors to provide individual or group activities for students and/or parents to achieve improvement.  Incumbent may also have contact with other Austin ISD employees.

 
COMPENSATION:
Pay Grade: CP1
Starting Salary: $22.57/Hr
