The incumbent receives instructions from the night shift Housekeeping Aide Foreman and relays the instructions to subordinate workers. Additionally, he/she will work alongside subordinates in order to accomplish daily and periodical sanitation maintenance. The incumbent will follow-up with the Foreman to ensure the work has been accomplished according to instructions.
Typical daily sanitation maintenance tasks include dust mopping and wet mopping, cleaning restrooms, showers and related fixtures, vacuuming carpets, dusting ledges, washing furniture, washing walls, and removing and disposing of trash. He/she will use a germicidal detergent solution to disinfect all surfaces.
The incumbent performs periodical sanitation maintenance that includes deep scrubbing or stripping floors, applying floor finish, shampooing carpet or furniture fabric, and wall washing. He/she will periodically be required to perform furniture moving for the purpose of floor maintenance for office relocation.
Areas where sanitation maintenance is accomplished includes, but is not limited to patient wards, ICU, exam rooms, offices, locker rooms, restrooms, lounges admin areas, operating rooms and corridors. The incumbent will at times be required to perform the full range of cleaning in the operation rooms areas and will perform terminal bedmaking.
The incumbent will perform daily scheduling for subordinate workers to ensure manpower coverage in all work areas. He/she will work alongside the work group and will set the pace of the work. The incumbent demonstrates to subordinates, proper work methods and safety. He/she maintains a current knowledge of the work being performed in order to answer questions of the work group.
The incumbent checks the quality of work performed by the work group during the course of work. He/she conducts monthly QA inspections to ensure cleanliness standards are met and cleaning frequencies are followed. The incumbent regularly reports to the night shift and day shift Sanitation Foreman the condition of the work area and the progress of the work. He/she is able to answer questions of the Foreman regarding overall work operations.
He/she regularly inspects Housekeeping Closets to ensure they are properly cleaned and adequately stocked. Assures the employees in the work group have supplies and equipment readily available to perform housekeeping duties.
He/She will assist the Chief EMS in pest management duties to include setting, checking and removing pest traps, assessments of problematic areas and taking contractors to problematic areas.
In the absence of the night shift Forman, the incumbent will assume the role of night shift foreman.
SKILL AND KNOWLEDGE
The incumbent must have the ability to read, write, and follow oral and written instructions. He/she must possess the technical knowledge of proper housekeeping procedures in order to perform quality housekeeping duties and provide effective work direction. He/she must have a thorough knowledge of aseptic cleaning procedures which is vital to a healthcare facility. The incumbent must adhere to instructions, cleaning techniques, and safety precautions.
The incumbent maintains a thorough knowledge of and practices good infection control measures and universal/standard/contact/droplet and isolation precautions. He/she understands the proper uses of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and uses the appropriate PPE whenever the need dictates.
He/she must be knowledgeable and skillful in the safe operation of all electrical and battery powered equipment. These are to include, but are not limited to, floor scrubbers, burnishers, wet/dry vacuums, stripping machines, wax applicators and carpet extractors. Must be able to use trade publications and follow equipment guidelines and operating instructions to ensure maximum efficiency of all equipment and the safe operation of the equipment.
