WSP is currently initiating a search for a mid-level Hydrogeologist  for our Tampa, Florida location. We are looking for an individual who is inspired to grow with us and become an integral part of our team.  The successful candidate will have the opportunity to be part of our dynamic and highly talented distributed team of hydrogeologists delivering high profile projects to our clients. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in hydrogeology and groundwater modeling.  
 
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Preparation of Water Use Permit applications and supporting documentation
  • Preparation of underground injection control permit applications, well construction and test plans, mechanical integrity test plans, and annual monitoring reports for injection well systems
  • Preparation of project plans and technical reports of hydrogeologic investigations and groundwater modeling, and provide analysis and interpretations of findings
  • Groundwater flow modeling using MODFLOW and other numerical models to evaluate aquifer and surface water conditions due to groundwater withdrawals, evaluate effects on water quality (salt water intrusion), evaluation of groundwater recharge and assessment of reclaimed water land application.
  • Possess a working knowledge and understanding of federal and state regulations applicable to groundwater use, underground injection control, and reclaimed water reuse projects
  • Project management responsibilities including preparation of proposals, management of schedule, manpower, and budget requirements to effectively implement projects
  • Provide professional and responsible written and verbal communications with clients, contractors and regulators
  • Provide water supply or injection well design, and direct/oversee well construction, sampling and testing 
  • Assist in the design and field performance of aquifer tests, and analysis of test data using standard solution methods
  • Document and record field data and observations in a clear and organized manner, and prepare logs and other forms from the field notes during well drilling, pump testing and water sampling
  • Coordinate field activities and schedules with property/facility owner/operators in a clear, professional manner
  • Provide assistance in the analysis, evaluation and interpretation of hydrologic, hydrogeologic and chemical data obtained during field investigations
  • Make technical presentations when necessary to describe project work to clients, regulators, colleagues or the general public

Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in geology/earth sciences or related discipline
  • 5+ years of relevant experience
  • Valid US driver’s license required
  • Must be able to work both independently and as a member of a project team
  • Clear and concise verbal and written communication skills
  • Self-sufficient and ability to work under pressure of deadlines
  • Knowledge of general geologic concepts including map contouring, stratigraphy, aquifer testing, hydrologic monitoring, and soil classification
  • Experience with groundwater modeling with MODFLOW and other numerical models
  • Must be able to oversee and work with subcontractors (e.g., drillers, construction workers, surveyors, etc.) while performing field work
  • Ability to evaluate and analyze water quantity and quality data
  • Ability to work overtime (as needed) in both office and field, and periodic travel
  • Must be able to make trips to local sites, and travel via air or land to other client sites
  • Demonstrated competence in Microsoft Word™, Microsoft Excel™, and Adobe Acrobat Professional™
  • This position may require travel throughout the state of Florida
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
  • Must successfully complete and pass WSP’s Motor Vehicle screening.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Candidates should have a Master of Science degree in geology, hydrogeology or a related field
  • Florida Licensed Professional Geologist
  • Florida Water Use Permitting experience
  • GIS experience is a plus
