Job Description

The Instructional Designer/Principle Trainer will be an integral part of the electronic health record (EHR) implementation and support team who will work with the Training and Application leadership to develop and deliver the EHR training and going support program at various H+H facilities. The successful candidate will participate in formal classroom education delivery, informal one-to-one training sessions, study halls, targeted training efforts, and at-the-elbow support.  This dynamic candidate must possess strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities. A strong belief in the objectives of this organization and the EHR project is required. The ideal candidate will have a background in instructional design/ curriculum development and a robust knowledge of adult learning methods. Candidate must possess excellent presentation skills, strong technical documentation skills, and proficiency in the Microsoft Office (certification preferred) including MS Project, and Visio.  Preferential consideration will be given to those applicants with Epic certification or credentialing, previous EHR implementation experience, and those with clinical backgrounds.  The candidate must successfully attain credentialing in the respective application(s).


  • Develop and implement the training program for their respective Epic application(s).
  • Build, test, and maintain the EHR training environment and all associated facets.
  • Create and maintain training materials including but not limited to Lesson Plans, PowerPoints, E-learnings, Tip Sheets, SharePoint documents, and Parking Lot items.
  • Facilitate training for new staff, on-going training, upgrade training, and optimization training.
  • Maintain policy and procedure documentation per the HHC standard.
  • Travel between facility locations in response to training schedules, and provide off-shift training as needed.
  • Own, coordinate and provide support during and after go-lives, upgrades, optimizations, downtimes, etc.
  • Provide the Project Management team with identified risks and concerns.
  • Participate in special projects as needed and perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Baccalaureate Degree from an accredited college or university in Education, Public Health, Psychology, Personnel Administration, Management or Public Administration, or a related approved discipline; and,
2. Five years of progressively responsible experience in planning and manpower development and training programs, medical or public health administration or other fields related to training, development and manpower analysis, of which at least two years must have been in a managerial, supervisory or administrative capacity related to the organization, formulation, development and implementation of such plans and programs: or,
3. A Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in Education, Management, Social Work, Medical Administration, Psychology, Personnel Administration, Public Administration, or a related approved field with four years of experience as described in (2), and two years in a managerial, supervisory or administrative capacity; and,
4. Extensive knowledge of the principals of training and manpower development programs and ability to analyze and determine the needs of the Corporation; or,
5. A satisfactory combination of training, education and experience indicating the ability to perform satisfactorily.
Special Note: In addition to meeting the qualification requirements stated above, assignment to Level II requires evidence of advance study in relevant disciplines.

Department Preferences

Preference will be given to individuals with:

  • Proficiency or certification in the respective Epic application.
  • Completed e-learnings and pass Credentialing test and Presentation.
  • Successfully credentialing in the respective application assignment(s) for the role.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including presentation delivery and classroom facilitation.
  • Skill and experience in adult education.
  • Experience delivering a combination of classroom, on line, and one-on-one training.
  • Experience delivering software training and developing training materials.
  • Must be able to work independently as well as work as part of a dynamic team.
  • Knowledge and expertise in the characteristics of Information Technology and peripheral devices.
  • Must be able to work independently as well as work as part of a fast moving team.
  • Must be able to work at various locations when necessary along with working various shifts.
  • Two (2) Year Job Commitment due to Training expense incurred by NYC H+H.
  • Previous Health Care experience/ Epic Credentialing.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
