Job Description

This position is with the Offender Release Services Unit located at Department of Corrections' Headquarters in Richmond, Virginia. Offender Release Services Unit operates to ensure all eligible offenders are released in a timely manner in accordance with the Code of Virginia and in conjunction with the mission of the Offender Release Services (Community Release Unit). This position requisitions, secures, tracks release plans and legal update sheets for Officer assignment to ensure that the update sheets and release plans are coordinated with each case. Type and upload release notifications. Ensure that notifications are forwarded to the appropriate Districts, Correctional Facilities and Jails. Review Sex Offender lists for possible Civil Commitment. Request information from the Probation and Parole District regarding the acceptability of the release plan for Sex offenders.  
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent. Experience in a field related to criminal justice, especially in criminal procedures and records processes. Basic knowledge of the Code of Virginia as it pertains to criminal sentencing. Demonstrated ability to work independently and analyze and resolve problems with general guidance from supervision. Demonstrated ability to comprehend and interpret complex laws, legal documents and policies. Demonstrated skill in the use of computers, related applications and software, and automated systems (i.e., MS Office Suite, web based applications, etc.). Demonstrated knowledge of offender bases practices. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. The selected candidate should possess mathematics and calculation skills; the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships inside and outside the work unit; and the ability to adapt to changes in procedures, priorities and the automated system.  
Preferred Qualifications
Prefer working knowledge of policies and procedures related to the offender release process.
