You have a head for stats, an eye for a great story, and the range as a writer to be creative and succinct -- and your passion for sports is the beating heart that fuels it all. You are joined at the hip with stats, possess excellent news judgment and a genuine passion for sports, plus the desire to join the next great wave in sports media. Put all that together and you're a perfect fit for the CBS Sports Digital Research Team.

Your Day-to-Day:

Our researchers not only are at their best for the Super Bowl Sunday and the NFL and NBA Drafts -- along with CBS signature events like The Masters and the NCAA Tournament -- but thrive on finding nuggets that make our viewers smarter when Purdue and Indiana go at it in a Big Ten conference basketball game in January. Not to mention NFL schedule release or the NBA and MLB trading deadlines. Here you will work with people who share your will to win with the next segment or story. The Research Team supplies the information that fuels CBS Sports HQ, a 24/7 digital network serving the invested sports fan. Your info helps NFL, college football, NBA, MLB, college basketball, golf, combat sports and soccer fans increase their collective IQ, and all dispensed through the prism of premium Fantasy and Gambling info.

Key Projects:


  • Building full-screen graphics for HQ, including original programming such as Fantasy Football Today and Kanell & Bell.
  • Work with news editors and producers on Breaking News alerts to provide depth of coverage.
  • When news breaks, your research adds depth when developing the story within minutes, or even seconds.
  • Digging up facts and stats to lend context to news (i.e., player movement, injuries or coaching changes).
  • Help HQ tell stories by helping producers flesh out topics for segments.

What you bring to the team:

You have –


  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in sports, stats or research, preferably in a TV or digital environment.
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent.
  • Available to work days, nights, weekends and holidays.
  • High-level knowledge of most sports and expert-level recall of current/historical stats, milestones, news and events.
  • Writing/grammar expertise is essential when handling graphics and scripts.
  • Able to communicate accurately while meeting strict deadlines, or in breaking news situations.
  • Demonstrated track-record training others and/or managing team-based projects.
