The Division of Correctional Health Services (CHS) of the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation is responsible for the delivery of medical and behavioral health care, social work services, discharge planning and reentry services 24-hours a day, 7-days a week. CHS is a national leader in the delivery of health care to the justice-involved population and works continuously to improve access to, and quality and continuity of, care within the jail system.

Job Description

Under the direction of the Senior Deputy Director of Safety, the Associate director serves as an environmental health and safety officer for Correctional health services, implements and monitors adherence to CHS safety guidelines, and ensures effective communication with CHS staff on issues impacting employee safety, with an emphasis on field-based staff communication and provides input and expertise to Safety department leadership on development and implementation of programs and daily business practices that ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations and accreditation.


Preferred Skills:

A Master’s degree in Science with a specialization in hospital administration, health care administration, administrative medicine or in public health when conferred for a program in hospital administration, from an approved college or university; or a Baccalaureate degree; and,

1. Two (2)- Five (5) years of relevant experience in EHS, Bio Safety, Process Safety, or Risk Management  and background; or,
2. An equivalent combination of training, education and experience in related fields and educational disciplines; and,
3. General knowledge of policies and programs utilized in the operation of a health care facility, ability to assimilate and analyze data, to recommend action based on analytical findings, and to assist in the solution of complex problems in health care administration and management.

Minimum Qualifications

1. A Masters Degree in Art or Science with a specialization in Hospital Administration, Health Care Administration, Administrative Medicine or in Public Health when conferred for a program in hospital administration from an approved college or university; and,
2. Four years of administrative experience and background at responsible management and administrative levels; or,
3. An equivalent combination of training, educational background and experience in related fields and educational disciplines; and,
4. Knowledge of fundamentals of hospital organization, administration and standards, regulations and laws applicable to hospital operations. Knowledge of principles of business and personnel administration, management functions and support service functions and ability to direct and supervise personnel
