Job Description
We are seeking a Security Officer to protect hospital-controlled properties and equipment and provide a safe and secure environment for Northern Virginia Mental Health Institute (NVMHI). This position patrols the facilities grounds and buildings ensuring the areas are secure and that safety issues are addressed. It supports activities of the facilities such as responding to behavioral emergencies, escorting individuals we serve on Special Hospitalizations, patrol nursing unit every 15 minutes, processing fingerprinting, ensuring equipment temperatures are functioning properly, responding to alarms, supporting emergency management programs, transporting individuals, and providing support to the switchboard/reception. The successful candidate will have knowledge of Virginia state codes, laws, and regulations; ability to follow written and oral instructions; to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; and to use interpersonal skills to establish and maintain an effective working relationships. Must be able to work mandatory overtime as needed. Performs other duties as assigned  
Minimum Qualifications
Experience in a security/safety position required. Current state motor vehicle operator's license required.  
Preferred Qualifications
Prior law enforcement experience a plus. Experience with diverse populations or groups including mental health and intellectual disabilities preferred. Experience writing clear and precise reports strongly preferred.  
Special Requirements
Position is for various hours and days - up to 29 hours per week for the one of the following shifts: - 8am to 330pm every other weekend, may include Holidays - 4pm to 1130pm every other weekend, may include Holidays Employment is contingent upon a satisfactory fingerprint-based background check.
