Description:

Under minimal supervision, initiates the appointment/credentialing & reappointment/recredentialing process, compiling & processing data in compliance w/ local, regional, state & federal accreditation requirements. Ensures thorough & timely verification of Licensed Independent Practitioner's (LIP) & Allied Health Professional Staff (AHP) credentials & privileges according to local & regional medical staff services policies & procedures for practitioners in both the hospital and/or ambulatory settings. Provide medical staff service support services to professional staff by supporting professional staff committee meetings, initiating the proctoring function, tracking of residents/medical students & acting as a resource for physicians, allied health professionals, medical center leadership & patients. Completes specific time-limited project assignments as delegated by Director of Medical Staff Services or Senior Medical Staff Coordinator.


Essential Functions:

- Audit practitioners' credentialing and recredentialing files to ensure all required elements are in place & in accordance w/ Regional policy, regulatory & accrediting agency requirements, prior to committee review & approval.


- Provide assistance in training of credentialing staff as required or applicable.

- Serves as a resource to the Medical Staff Coordinators on issues regarding credentialing for physicians & allied health professionals.

- Provide reports & status updates to regional medical staff offices or involved parties to ensure compliance. 

- Support committees as assigned.

- Ensure consistent documentation & complete verification of practitioner (LIP/AHP) credentials.

- Provide required documentation to Chiefs of Service, Department Administrators, Medical Center Leaders & Committee Chairs/Members, as appropriate.

- Process credentials applications, initial & recredential.

- Process all applications for appointment/credentialing, reappointment/recredentialing via the local & regional medical staff/credentialing policies & procedures.

- Initiate investigation into applicant's background, education & experience through use of on-line systems, written correspondence, telephone inquiries & printed reference guides & reports.

- Partner w/ all necessary staff to ensure an integrated, timely, consistent product. 

- Collaborate w/ professional physician recruiters to monitor recruitment status of candidates to ensure timely credentialing prior to employment.

- Maintains computerized database of practitioner data for use in the medical staff service program to assure data for all credentialed & privileged practitioners is consistently accurate & current. 

- Implements an efficient & effective communication system for transmission of electronic practitioner data to other users in the medical center for information (i.e., practitioner-specific privilege look-up for patient care units).

- Implements an efficient & effective communication/transmission system of shared data to regional or other local sites to facilitate timely approval for professional staff appointment or approval to participate w/ in Southern California Region.

- Assume other duties as directed.


 Basic Qualifications:

- Five (5) plus years of experience w/ credentialing in a hospital or ambulatory setting. 

- AA degree or equivalent experience.

- Bachelor's degree preferred.

- Proficient w/ medical terminology. 

- Significant knowledge of Federal & State regulatory requirements & accreditation standards, e.g., JCAHO, Title XXII, NCQA, NPDB & certifying agencies. 

- Strong organization & communication skills, attention to details required.

- Ability to lead & facilitate processes through influence & collaboration.

- Demonstrated problem-solving skills & initiative. 

- Service oriented & the ability to work in a team environment required. 

- Demonstrated ability to review practitioner credentialing files for accuracy & completion.

- Additional Skills: Proficient w/ IBM PC, Word, Excel, Access.

Preferred Qualifications:


- Must be CPCS certified or obtain certification within one year.  

- Must be a team player and willing to learn. 

- Must be able to work in a fast pace high volume environment. 

- Must have excellent communication, critical thinking, decision making, and problem-solving skills. 

- Required support optimization teams in SCAL to include workflow, training and standardization teams. 


Notes:

- Schedule may flex 2 hours before or after work and weekends to meet operational needs.

- May lead work unit team, workflow, training and onboarding efforts as required.  

- Maybe required to Telecommute as required by organizational or operational needs.
